New East India Company observations

A map will soon appear here.

Open the panel below labeled 'Select ship', and pick a ship and voyage. The observations for that voyage will be downloaded and displayed both as points on the map, and as IMMA records in the pane at the bottom. Selecting a point on the map will highlight the corresponding IMMMA record, and vice versa. Clicking on an already-selected point or record will open a window allowing you to examine or edit the record. Selecting a new ship and voyage will remove the currently-displayed observations and replace them with those for the new voyage.

Open the panel labled 'Appearance' and you will see commands for colouring the map points according to the observed air temperature, SST and so on; and for adding background climatologies from HadISST and the NCEP reanalysis.

Colour icons and background by which variable?

Display background climatology for?

The data displayed are weather observations from ships in the service of the English East-India Company; digitised, from records held in the British Library, by the Met Office Hadley Centre and NOAA/CDMP.
